Paris Saint-Germain moved to the brink of retaining the Ligue 1 title after a dramatic 1-0 victory over Stade Brestois 29, sealed by a late strike from Desire Doue on Sunday.
In what marked Luis Enrique’s 100th Ligue 1 match in charge, PSG were pushed all the way but ultimately delivered when it mattered most. The win restored their six-point lead at the summit over RC Lens ahead of a decisive top-of-the-table clash.
PSG now require just a single point from their remaining two fixtures to officially secure the Ligue 1 title. Realistically, their superior goal difference means the trophy is all but heading back to Paris unless a dramatic swing occurs.
The hosts began with intensity, nearly taking an early lead when Lucas Hernandez unleashed a powerful long-range effort, only to be denied by a superb fingertip save from Brest goalkeeper Gregoire Coudert.
Despite dominating possession and territory, PSG found clear chances hard to convert. Brest remained dangerous on the counter, forcing Renato Marin into a smart stop to deny Raphael Le Guen from close range.
With the match still deadlocked after an hour, Luis Enrique turned to his bench, introducing Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to inject attacking urgency. The closest PSG came before the breakthrough was through Senny Mayulu, whose curling effort struck both the crossbar and post in a moment of cruel misfortune.
The pressure continued to mount, with Joao Neves also going close as PSG pushed relentlessly for a winner.
The decisive moment finally arrived in the 82nd minute. Substitute Desire Doue cut inside from the left and produced a composed finish into the bottom-right corner, sparking celebrations inside the Parc des Princes.
Brest nearly responded immediately when Hugo Magnetti dispossessed Neves in a dangerous area, but Marin reacted sharply to preserve PSG’s lead and ensure all three points.
The result not only strengthened PSG’s grip on the title race but also extended their remarkable dominance over Brest. The Parisians are now unbeaten in 34 consecutive matches against their opponents across all competitions, their longest such run against a single team.
Historically, only Olympique Lyonnais have managed five consecutive Ligue 1 titles, but PSG are now on the verge of matching that feat. Their current six-point cushion, combined with a significant goal difference advantage, places them firmly in control with two matches remaining.
Despite the narrow scoreline, PSG’s attacking persistence was evident. They registered 23 shots with six on target, producing an expected goals return of 1.25, while Brest were limited to just 0.16 from their 13 attempts.
Doue’s winner, his seventh league goal of the campaign, could prove to be the defining moment in PSG’s march towards yet another Ligue 1 crown.
