Serhou Guirassy’s first-half goal proved decisive as Borussia Dortmund edged FC Augsburg 1-0 to climb to second place in the Bundesliga, with the Guinean forward rediscovering his scoring touch ahead of a crucial Champions League clash.

Serhou Guirassy returned to the scoresheet as Borussia Dortmund battled to a 1-0 victory over FC Augsburg on a chilly Friday night, a result that lifted them into second place in the Bundesliga standings.

The Guinea international, who had gone four league matches without a goal, broke the deadlock in the 37th minute. After pouncing on a loose ball just inside the penalty area, Guirassy calmly struck a low right-footed shot past the Augsburg goalkeeper and into the bottom corner.

That finish marked his fifth league goal of the season and reaffirmed his position among the Bundesliga’s leading scorers, trailing only Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane.

Dortmund, who had faced just one shot on target all evening, managed the game efficiently after the break. Despite limited clear chances for either side, their defensive composure ensured the slender lead held firm until the final whistle.

Guirassy’s goal arrives at a pivotal time for Dortmund, with a visit to Manchester City in the Champions League looming next week. The 28-year-old forward, recently named among the nominees for the 2025 African Player of the Year award, continues to showcase the form that made him one of Europe’s standout strikers last season, when he netted 21 times in the Bundesliga.

For Augsburg, the result extended their winless run to three consecutive matches, leaving them hovering in 15th place and desperate to find form before the winter break.

Dortmund now sit four points behind leaders Bayern Munich, who still have a game in hand, as the Bundesliga title race begins to heat up.
