Leverkusen Power Past Leipzig In Statement Bundesliga Win
Bayer Leverkusen produced a ruthless attacking display to defeat RB Leipzig 3-1 away from home, turning the match around before half time and sealing the points with a late counter attack at the Red Bull Arena.
Bayer Leverkusen underlined their Bundesliga title credentials with an impressive 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig in an entertaining Round 15 clash played on Saturday night.
The hosts started brightly and were rewarded in the 35th minute when Xaver Schlager fired Leipzig ahead from close range after sustained pressure. The early lead lifted the home crowd and appeared to give Leipzig control of the contest.
Leverkusen, however, responded with composure and quality. Just five minutes later, Martin Terrier rose highest to head in an equaliser from an Arthur cross, swinging momentum firmly in the visitors’ favour.
The turnaround was completed before the break. Patrik Schick showed his predatory instincts in the 44th minute, finishing calmly from the centre of the box after being played through by Nathan Tella to give Leverkusen a 2-1 advantage at half time.
Leipzig pushed hard after the restart, creating several chances through Christoph Baumgartner, Conrad Harder and Xaver Schlager, but Leverkusen goalkeeper Mark Flekken stood firm with a series of crucial saves.
As the hosts committed numbers forward in search of an equaliser, spaces opened up at the back. Leverkusen exploited that late on, with substitute Montrell Culbreath delivering the decisive blow deep into stoppage time. The attacker raced through on a fast break and finished emphatically to make it 3-1 in the 97th minute, silencing the home fans.
The closing stages saw tempers flare, with Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba picking up a late yellow card, but Leverkusen managed the game professionally to see out the result.
The win keeps Bayer Leverkusen firmly in the title conversation and highlights their growing maturity in big away fixtures. For RB Leipzig, the defeat will be a concern, especially after a promising start that failed to translate into points.
