We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing on of our Secretary General, Mr. Gilbert Andugu. Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to Andugu’s family, friends, and relatives. May his soul rest in peace.Andugu’s passing comes at a sensitive time for the club, just days before the high-profile Mashemeji Derby against rivals Gor Mahia, set for Sunday, May 11, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. A respected leader and businessman based in Mombasa, Andugu brought structure and stability to the club's administration. He was known for his organisational acumen and played a key role in streamlining the club’s human resource department. Before becoming Secretary General in June 2022, he had already built a strong reputation within the club, serving as Chairman of Chairmen between 2016 and 2020, during which time he expanded AFC Leopards’ branch network from 8 to 35. He also chaired the Coast Branch, one of the most dynamic and vocal branches in the club. Club patron Alexander Muteshi led the tributes, describing Andugu as “a dedicated servant of the club whose passion for football and commitment to AFC Leopards will be remembered for years to come.” His final major act as Secretary General was extending the membership renewal deadline to April 29, a move aimed at boosting participation in the upcoming Annual General Meeting — a testament to his vision for an inclusive and united club. Andugu was elected Secretary General after defeating Robert Situma and Tonny Omusina, replacing Oliver Shikuku, who had served two full terms. His leadership was widely credited for enhancing professionalism in club operations, particularly in areas such as team logistics during matches held in Mombasa. Following his passing, the club is expected to release further details about funeral arrangements. The AFC Leopards fraternity, along with the wider Kenyan football community, continues to mourn a man who devoted his time, energy, and passion to the beautiful game. May Gilbert Andugu’s soul rest in eternal peace.
