Arsenal underlined their Premier League title credentials with a composed 2-0 triumph over Burnley at Turf Moor, extending their lead at the summit to seven points. First-half goals from Viktor Gyokeres and Declan Rice were enough to secure a fifth successive league victory, maintaining the Gunners’ impressive defensive record in the process.
The visitors dominated from the outset, showing patience and precision as Burnley tried to frustrate them early on. Arsenal’s breakthrough came after just 14 minutes, once again from a well-rehearsed set piece. Declan Rice’s pinpoint corner found Gabriel at the back post, whose header across goal was nodded home by Gyökeres for his first league goal since September.
Burnley struggled to cope with Arsenal’s intensity, and the second goal arrived before the break. After a sharp counterattack initiated by Gyokeres, Leandro Trossard’s deft cross found Rice charging into the box. The England international powered a header past Martin Dubravka to make it 2–0, capping an excellent first-half display.
The second half was more subdued, with Arsenal in full control. Burnley’s best moment came in the dying minutes when Marcus Edwards struck the post with the last kick of the game. Arsenal, meanwhile, nearly added a third through substitutes Mikel Merino and Christian Nørgaard, but Dubravka stood firm.
For Burnley, the defeat leaves them hovering just above the relegation zone in 17th. Despite recent improvement, they will view upcoming fixtures against direct rivals as crucial in their fight for survival.
Arsenal, meanwhile, head to the Czech Republic for a UEFA Champions League clash with Slavia Prague before facing Sunderland away in their next Premier League outing. With momentum building and confidence sky-high, Arteta’s men are tightening their grip on the title race.
