Gor Mahia claimed a commanding 2-0 victory over Mathare United at Kasarani Stadium, with goals from Musa Shariff and Bryson Wangai sealing the points. The champions showed composure, control, and clinical finishing to extend their impressive start to the season.

Gor Mahia continued their fine form in the Sportpesa League with a convincing 2-0 win over Mathare United at the MISC Kasarani Stadium on Thursday evening. The Green Army displayed dominance and tactical discipline from start to finish, as goals from Musa Shariff and Bryson Wangai secured all three points for the reigning champions.

The match began with Gor Mahia immediately asserting control in possession, dictating the tempo through crisp passing and composure in midfield. Alpha Onyango, Austin Odhiambo, and Ernest Wendo combined fluidly, keeping Mathare pinned in their own half. The early exchanges saw Gor create a series of chances, with Patrice Essombe and Shariff threatening down both wings.

The breakthrough came shortly after halftime. Just two minutes into the second period, Paul Ochuoga delivered a teasing cross from the right, and Musa Shariff, who had been lively all evening, timed his run perfectly to slot home from close range. The goal was met with an emotional celebration, as Shariff dedicated his strike to the late Raila Odinga, Gor Mahia’s revered patron.

Mathare United tried to mount a response, with Masika and Okoth testing Gor’s goalkeeper Bryne Omondi, but the K’Ogalo shot-stopper stood firm, producing key saves to deny any comeback hopes. The hosts continued to show attacking intent, while Gor’s defense, marshaled by Joshua Onyango and Sylvester Owino, remained impenetrable.

In the closing stages, Gor Mahia’s superior depth made the difference once again. Substitute Bryson Wangai capped off the performance in stoppage time, calmly finishing to make it 2-0 after a clever team move that left Mathare’s backline flat-footed.

The result reflected Gor Mahia’s maturity and their ability to manage games effectively pressing when needed, defending intelligently, and punishing opponents at the right moments.

The victory pushes Gor Mahia further up the table as they continue their title defense in commanding fashion with a game in hand. Mathare United, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly as their search for consistency continues.

In another match rangers started brightly, scoring twice in the first half through Clinton Olilo (24’) and Francis Ojiambo (35’), looking set for an easy win. However, the visitors turned the game around in the second period, fighting back with goals from Lameck Maina (67’) and another equalizer in the 75th minute.

Despite Rangers’ early dominance, their inability to close out the game proved costly. The draw leaves Posta Rangers third on the table with 11 points from six matches, while Murang’a Seal remain 17th with four points.
