Trump Claims Global Peace Role After Receiving Fifa Honor
US President Donald Trump has linked his leadership to global peace efforts after receiving a FIFA honor, as preparations intensify for the historic 2026 World Cup
US president Donald Trump has once again placed himself at the center of global headlines after openly campaigning for the Nobel Peace Prize and emerging as a favorite to win FIFA’s newly created honor.
Speaking after receiving a gold medal and trophy, Trump described the award as one of the defining moments of his public life.
This is truly one of the great honors of my life,” Trump said. “Beyond awards, Gianni and I were discussing this, we saved millions and millions of lives.
Trump shares a close relationship with FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who has previously made it clear he believes the American politician deserved the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in pushing for a ceasefire in Gaza. The two have appeared together on several occasions, reinforcing their political and sporting alliance.
The former president has claimed credit for ending conflicts in Gaza and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, among other regions. However, fighting continues in both areas, with international observers offering mixed views on the impact and durability of those claimed interventions.
Trump’s comments come as FIFA builds momentum toward the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. The tournament is set to kick off in June and will be the biggest in history, featuring a record 104 matches staged across 16 cities in the three host nations.
With global attention already fixed on the tournament, Trump’s involvement and recognition by football’s world governing body adds another layer of political intrigue to an event expected to redefine the scale and spectacle of the 2026 World Cup.
